St. Christopher’s
Preschool is a place where children experience growth –
physically, mentally, socially, emotionally and intellectually.
A well-planned program of activities is specifically geared
to meet the needs and desires of 2 ½ to 5 year old
children at their level of maturity.
The Preschool provides both a preparation for grade school
as well as an experience in purposeful, successful living
and learning. Young children learn through “play”.
Action, rather than abstract thinking is the young child’s
predominant behaviour trait.
Therefore, learning to a young child
is as much a physical as a cognitive process. The children
will learn through all their senses – sight, sound,
touch, and smell. Preparation for grade school is a happy
by-product.
Learning through “doing and experiencing”,
on the part of the child is stressed, rather than teaching
by the adult. St. Christopher’s tries to direct energy
rather than suppress it. We guide growth rather than force
young children into predetermined patterns. Emphasis is upon
the development if the individual; the teachers provide each
child with support, encouragement and help where needed.
Each child is made to feel that being young is special. The
children are made to know that they are valued persons, and
that their opinions and ideas are listened to with respect.
A child learns to feel secure with caring, trustful adults.
In this environment, the child will understand the world in
which it lives, develop good attitudes, and grow with purpose,
creativity, initiative and independence.
At St. Christopher’s the children are given freedom,
space and time. They have the right to have fun, to play and
to explore.
Enjoying childhood experiences to the fullest is what we stress.
Our caring, supportive environment ensures each child grows
and learns at their own pace.
